Dow completes construction on new Freeport cracker; start-up expected by mid-year

HOUSTON, March 28, 2017 (PCW) – Dow said Tuesday it had completed construction on its new 3.3 billion lbs/yr TX-9 olefins plant at Freeport and start-up is expected by the middle of this year.

The plant is in the commissioning phase. It is expected to consume some 90,000 b/d of ethane, as per PetroChem Wire estimates

Ethylene production from the new cracker is expected to supply new derivative units, which include an 880 million lbs/yr Elite Enhanced polyethylene unit, a 770 million lbs/yr LDPE unit, a 484 million lbs/yr metallocene EPDM unit, a 704 million lbs/yr high melt index specialty and conventional polyolefin elastomers unit and a 275 million lbs/yr debottleneck. -- Samantha Hartke
