Formosa delays PDH unit start-up to 2020-21
HOUSTON, March 30, 2017 (PCW) – Formosa has pushed the start-up date of its new, 1.375 billion lbs/yr propane dehydrogenation unit at Point Comfort to 2020-21 from the originally announced 2018-19 time frame.
No reason for the delay was provided.
The announcement follows several delays, deferments or outright cancellations of similar planned units in North America.
Enterprise’s PDH unit at Mont Belvieu is expected to begin commercial production in July, another delay from the originally expected in-service date of mid-2017 and, prior to that, at the end of 2016.
Ascend has indefinitely tabled its 2 billion lbs/yr PDH at Alvin, while Rextac cancelled its 660 million lbs/yr plant at Odessa.
Planned PDH units still in the running include Pembina/PIC’s and Inter Pipeline plants in Alberta, and Sunoco Logistics’at Marcus Hook, Pennsylvania. -- Samantha Hartke
