Saitoh Named President of Shin-Etsu Chemical
HOUSTON, April 27, 2016 (PCW) -- Shin-Etsu Chemical this week named Yasuhiko Saitoh, 60, an executive vice president, to assume the title of president beginning in June. Saitoh will replace current president Shunzo Mori, 70. Chairman Chihiro Kanagawa, 90, will retain his position.
Saitoh has been with Shin-Etsu’s US PVC subsidiary, Shintech, for more than 30 years.
Saitoh was appointed Shin-Etsu's youngest director in 2001, at age 45, and succeeded Kanagawa as Shintech president ten years later.
He made the decision to build a 1.2 billion lbs/yr ethylene cracker in the US, which was an ambition of Kanagawa's and a step no other Japanese manufacturer has taken. The plant will take advantage of low US feedstock costs, and is scheduled to come online in 3Q 2018. -- Donna Todd
