US PET scrap exports, a $103 million business, down 40% in February

HOUSTON, April 12, 2016 (PCW) -- US PET scrap exports were down 40.6% in February from February 2015 led by a 53% drop to China, the latest USA Trade Online data show.

US PET scrap exports in 2015 totaled 275,205 metric tons valued at $103.1 million.

In February, these exports totaled 13,971 MT, down from 23,527 MT in February 2015. Of this total, 6,332 MT went to China, down from 13,495 MT in February 2015.

This scrap category includes bales, preforms and other PET scrap.

Other countries where exports in February were lower include Hong Kong, Taiwan and South Korea; countries where they were higher include the Philippines, Malaysia, India, Denmark and Mexico. -- Xavier A. Cronin
