Ineos Styrolution’s Bayport styrene unit has ‘upset’
HOUSTON, April 13, 2016 (PCW) -– Ineos Styrolution’s styrene unit at its Bayport plant reported an ‘upset’ Wednesday morning, according to a community hotline notice.
The shutdown appeared to be brief as the message indicated the unit would be started up shortly.
“Over the next few hours there could be some intermittent use of the plant’s safety flare as the plant is being stabilized and started back up … There is also the chance that some high-pressure steam may be released during certain phases of the shutdown/start-up process, which could result in a loud noise and a white plume,” the message stated.
The unit has a capacity of 700,000 mt/yr (1.54 billion lb/yr). In late January, the same unit experienced an ‘upset’ and was restarted in late February. -– Samantha Hartke
