Plastic scrap exports up 2% in February; all categories up except PET
HOUSTON, April 13, 2016 (PCW) -- US exports of plastic scrap, valued at $817 million in 2015, were up 2% in February from a year earlier, the latest USA Trade Online data show.
Exports for all five scrap categories totaled 141,551 metric, up from 138,652 MT in February 2015.
Exports were higher for four of the five plastic scrap categories tracked by USA Trade Online, a unit of the US Census Bureau. The outlier was PET scrap, with exports in February at 13,971 MT, down 40.6% from a year earlier.
For "other" plastic scrap, exports were up 12.7% in February at 57,049 MT. This category includes a mix of PET, HDPE, LDPE, PS, PVC, PP and other scrap not segregated by resin type.
China receives more US plastic scrap exports than any country. Exports to China in February totaled 48,345 MT, down 22% from February 2015 on a steep drop in PET scrap and 'other' scrap exports. Xavier A. Cronin
