Enterprise to repurpose Mont Belvieu ethylene storage cavern, build new pipe

HOUSTON, April 3, 2017 (PCW) -- Enterprise Products Partners on Monday announced it would repurpose an ethylene storage cavern at Mont Belvieu and build a new ethylene pipeline running from Mont Belvieu to Bayport.

The 5.3 million barrels storage well, which is expected to go into service in 3Q 2018, will be able to inject or withdraw ethylene at a rate of 2,000 bbl/hour, and can be expanded to 4,000 bbl/hr.

Enterprise noted that there are seven third-party ethylene pipelines within two miles of the well, providing it with significant connectivity opportunities.

Additionally, the company is building a new 24-mile, 12-inch diameter ethylene pipeline from Mont Belvieu to Bayport, which will run through Enterprise’s 200,000 b/d ethane export terminal at Morgan’s Point. This would provide the company with flexibility going forward should it move ahead with ethylene export capabilities out of that terminal.
