US PS scrap exports surge, imports down, through February

HOUSTON, April 20, 2017 (PCW) -- US exports of PS scrap totaled 7,434 metric tons in Jan-Feb, up 3,796 mt or 104% from Jan-Feb 2016, the latest USA Trade Online data show.

PS imports for the same periods were 903 mt and 1,423 mt, respectively, down 37%.

Exports were higher to China in Jan-Feb 2017 at 3,566 mt, up 251%, and Hong Kong, at 1,660 mt, up 65%, from Jan-Feb 2016.

Imports from Mexico, the top destination, totaled 697 mt in Jan-Feb 2017, down 461 mt or 40% from the year earlier period.

Full year 2016 PS scrap exports totaled 35,287 mt valued at $19.4 million, with imports at 7,910 mt valued at $5 million. -- Xavier A. Cronin
