Westlake’s expanded Petro 1 cracker back in service in 3Q
HOUSTON, May 3, 2016 (PCW) -- Westlake Chemical’s turnaround and expansion at its Petro 1 ethylene unit at Lake Charles, Louisiana, is expected to return to service in the third quarter, the company said Tuesday.
The cracker has a current capacity of 1.2 billion lb/yr and will be expanded with an additional 250 million lb/yr. Its turnaround began on Apr 18.
Meanwhile, Westlake’s 100 million lb/yr expansion of its 450 million lb/yr Calvert City, Kentucky, ethylene plant is still planned for the first half of 2017.
On Tuesday, Westlake Chemical reported 1Q net income of $123.1 million, down from $146.3 million a year ago. The decrease was due to lower sales prices for all of the company’s major products, it said. -- Samanatha Hartke
