US PET imports up 18.5% in March, up 80% from Mexico
HOUSTON, May 4, 2016 (PCW) -- US imports of packaging-grade PET totaled 62,553 metric tons in March, up 18.5% from March 2015, the latest USA Trade Online data show.
This is despite a sharp drop in imports from China, India ,Oman and Canada, all hit last year with antidumping duties.
Imports came from 19 countries. Imports from Mexico, the largest source of imported PET, were 26,427 MT in March, up 80% from March 2015. Brazil emerged as a major supplier with March imports of 4,328 MT, up 1,867% from 220 mt a year earlier. There were no PET imports from the United Arab Emirates in March 2015 and 3,894 MT a year later.
US PET imports in all of 2015 totaled 593,424 MT valued at $695.6 million.
