Corpus Christi PET plant likely operational in Q1 2017: Port

HOUSTON, May 18, 2016 (PCW) -- M&G Chemical's 1.1 million mt/year PET plant under construction in Corpus Christi, TX, is likely to be operational in Q1 2017, Jesse Samu, spokesman for Port Corpus Christi, told PCW Wednesday.

"M&G [the PET plant] could be complete by Q4 this year, but likely will be operational by Q1 of 17," Samu said.

As part of the project, Port Corpus Christi is building a new oil dock. The dock will take in vessels as large as Aframax tankers for the unloading of crude oil and other bulk liquids, like NGLs. The dock is expected to be completed by the end of June, Samu said.

Port customers who will use the dock are M&G and Gravity Midstream.

M&G's spokesman on Wednesday stuck by projections made earlier this year that it expects the plant to be operational by the end of Q4 2016.

M&G says this will be the world's largest PET plant. It will include a separate PTA plant. Nearly all the PET from Corpus Christi is slated for the US market, M&G has said. --  Xavier A. Cronin
