Petchems stocks mostly higher as crude, indexes rise: PCW index
HOUSTON, May 27, 2016 (PCW) –- Petchems companies’ stocks were mostly up during the week as crude and economic indexes saw gains.
The vinyls segment was leader with its average stock price up $1.23, or 3.44%, to $37.02/share. Olin’s stock price led the group, rising 9.54% during the week as many analysts upped their ratings to a ‘Buy.’
The olefins/polyolefins group was next with its average stock price rising $0.63, or 1.07%, to $59.78/share. Dupont and Dow’s stocks were the biggest gainers, up 3.96% and 2.4%, respectively, as the companies moved further toward their merger. This week, the companies announced senior leadership in the new entity.
The midstream segment saw its average stock price inch up $0.22, or 0.74%, to $30.26/share. Boardwalk Pipeline was in the lead with its stock price up 5.57% week-on-week after institutional investors increased their positions in the company’s stock, anticipating a healthy earnings per share figure.
The aromatics/refinery sector was the sole loser with its average stock price down 6 cents, or 0.11%, to $57.90/share. Alon was the biggest loser with its stock price down 6.57% on the week amid heavier-than-usual trading volumes. –- Samantha Hartke
