PS scrap exports up 91% in 1Q on surge to China

HOUSTON, May 11, 2017 (PCW) -- US exports of PS scrap totaled 12,648 metric tons in 1Q, up 6,011 mt, or 91 %, from 1Q 2016, the latest USA Trade Online data show.

Exports to China surged in 1Q to 5,488 mt, up 3,511 mt, or 178%, from 1Q 2016. Exports to Hong Kong totaled 2,405 mt in 1Q, up 804 mt, or 50%, from 1Q 2016, and exports to Canada were 2,384 mt, up 580 mt, or 32%, from 1Q 2016.

Full year 2016 PS exports totaled 35,287 mt valued $19.4 million.

Exports of PVC scrap in 1Q totaled 52,639 mt, up 178 mt, or 0.4%, from 1Q 2016. The top destination for PVC scrap exports in 1Q 2017 was China at 24,320 mt followed by Hong Kong at 17,345 mt.

Full year 2016 PVC scrap exports totaled 236,188 mt valued at $72.2 million. -- Xavier A. Cronin
