Mexico PE output reached 97% of capacity in 1Q - Braskem

HOUSTON, May 15, 2017 (PCW) -- First-quarter PE output at the Braskem-Idesa complex in Mexico totaled 250,000 mt, or 97% of available capacity, Braskem reported today in an earnings-related release.

The complex, which includes an ethane cracker, two HDPE units and one LDPE unit, had an output rate of 73% in 4Q 2016 .

Meanwhile, PE sales from the complex amounted to 264,000 mt, with 47% sold to the Mexican market and the remainder exported, mainly to Europe and Asia.

The share of PE exports going to Asia declined to 60% in 1Q, down from 67% in 4Q 2016. Meanwhile, Central America accounted for 11% of exports in 1Q, up from 8% in 4Q. -- David Barry
