US PET imports up despite antidumping duties
HOUSTON, June 9, 2016 (PCW) -- US imports of packaging grade PET, valued at $695.5 million in 2015, were up 2% during the first four months of 2016 despite antidumping duties imposed last year on imports from four major supplier countries.
Imports during Jan-Apr 2016 totaled 219,739 metric tons, up by 4,512 mt from the year-ago period, the latest USA Trade Online data show. Imports in April 2016 came from 20 countries.
Countries that have emerged as major suppliers this year include Brazil, with imports at 22,268 mt in Jan-Apr 2016, up from 770 mt, or by 2,792%, from the year-ago period.
The countries hit with the duties, imposed by the US government, are Canada, Oman, China and India. Xavier A Cronin
