US PET scrap exports surge on rising volumes to China, Vietnam

HOUSTON, June 5, 2017 (PCW) -- US exports of PET scrap totaled 103,475 metric tons in the first four months of 2017 valued at $35.2 million, up 38,284 mt, or 59%, from Jan-Apr 2016, the latest USA Trade Online data show.

The gain was mostly due to rising exports to China, Hong Kong and Vietnam, the top three destinations, respectively.

Exports to China in Jan-Apr 2017 totaled 51,660 mt, up 65%; to Hong Kong they were 34,138 mt, up 34%; and to Vietnam they totaled 6,296 mt, up 342% from Jan-Apr 2016.

Full year 2016 PET scrap exports totaled 252,403 mt valued at $87.3 million.-- Xavier A. Cronin
