US PVC scrap exports down 13%; China, Hong Kong take less

HOUSTON, June 6, 2017 (PCW) -- US imports of PVC scrap totaled 66,631 metric tons in Jan-Apr, down 9,832 mt, or 13%, from Jan-Apr 2016, the latest USA Trade Online data show.

Exports to the top destination, China, totaled 30,619 mt in Jan-Apr, down 17% from the 2016 period. Exports to Hong Kong, the number two destination, were 19,612 mt in the first four months of 2017, down 11%. Jan-Apr 2017 exports to Mexico, at the number three spot, were 3,551 mt, up 8%.

PCV scrap exports to Egypt totaled at 20 mt through April, compared to none in Jan-Apr 2016.

Full year 2016 PVC scrap exports totaled 236,045 mt valued at $72.1 million.

US PVC scrap imports, meanwhile, totaled 6,295 mt in Jan-Apr 2017, up 890 mt or 16% from the year-earlier period. Imports from the top source, Canada, totaled 3,559 mt in Jan-Apr, up 55% from Jan-Apr 2016. -- Xavier A Cronin
