Unsorted plastic scrap exports to Hong Kong drop 22% through April
HOUSTON, June 9, 2017 (PCW) -- US exports of unsorted plastic scrap to Hong Kong, the top destination, totaled 79,703 metric tons in Jan-Apr, down 22,588 mt or 22% from Jan-Apr 2016, the latest USA Trade Online data show.
Exports to China, the number two destination, totaled 65,911 mt in Jan-Apr 2017, up 12,826 mt or 24% from the year earlier period. Hong Kong and China together accounted for 68% of total exports in the first four months of 2017.
Overall exports in the 2017 period were 214,877 mt, down 20,909 mt or 9% from Jan-Apr 2016. Exports to Canada in the 2017 period totaled 26,684 mt, down 21,138 mt or 44% from Jan-Apr 2016.
Exports to the Cayman Islands totaled 12 mt in Jan-Apr 2017, down from 28 mt.
Full year 2016 unsorted plastic scrap US exports totaled 706,188 mt valued at $269.9 mil. Unsorted is one of five categories of plastic scrap tracked by USA Trade Online, a unit of the US Commerce Department's Census Bureau. -- Xavier A.Cronin
