Dow’s PDH unit in Freeport offline due to process disruption

HOUSTON, July 13, 2016 (PCW) -– Dow’s 1.65 billion lb/yr propane dehydrogenation unit in Freeport had a process upset earlier this week and is now offline.

“The unit was brought offline as teams worked to safely investigate the mechanical malfunction and return to operations as quickly as possible,” Dow said Wednesday.

The unit first came online in late December and reached full production rates in early March. The unit was taken down for planned maintenance in late March and shut again May 18 due to a compressor trip. It returned to service in late June, but has been reportedly running at reduced rates.
