US PET exports, valued at $436-mil in 2015, down 14% in Jan-May
HOUSTON, July 13, 2016 (PCW) -- US exports of prime PET totaled 99,725 metric tons in January-May, down by 16,795 mt or 14% from the year-ago period, the latest USA Trade Online data show.
These exports, valued at $436.1 million in 2015, have gone to 55 countries in the Jan-May 2016 period.
The sharpest drop was seen in Vietnam, with just 21 mt of exports in Jan-May 2016 compared to 7,449 mt in the year-ago period. Venezuela also saw a sharp drop, to 27 mt from 6,098 mt in the respective periods.
Canada remained the top destination for US PET exports at 25,368 mt in Jan-May, down by 2,800 mt or 10% from the year-ago period. Mexico received the next highest volume of exports at 20,385 mt followed by the Netherlands at 18,767 mt, and China at 12,895 mt. -- Xavier A. Cronin
