US plastic scrap exports, valued at $816 million in 2015, down 17% in May

HOUSTON, July 18, 2016 (PCW) -- US exports of plastic scrap in May totaled 187,162 metric tons, down by 37,897 mt, or 17%, from May 2015, the latest USA Trade Online data show.

The drop was largely due to lower exports to China, the leading destination in 2015.

Exports to China in May totaled 77,443 mt, 41% of the total and down by 28,671 mt or 27% from May 2015. This was largely due to fall in exports of "other" plastic scrap to China in May, which were 16,455 mt, down 65% from May 2015. This category includes non-sorted plastic scrap. The other four categories are PE, PS, PVC and PET. -- Xavier A. Cronin
