ExxonMobil’s Baton Rouge olefins plant shuts down unexpectedly

HOUSTON, August 3, 2016 (PCW) -– ExxonMobil’s 2.15 billion lbs/yr Baton Rouge olefins unit shut down unexpectedly Wednesday after a compressor trip.

Repairs are expected to take around seven to 10 days.

The steam cracker was restarted in late July after several days of maintenance due to mechanical issues. The unit represents 3.41% of US ethylene capacity and consumes up to 40,000 b/d of ethane, 10,000 b/d of propane and 10,000 b/d of butane.
