Huntsman’s Port Neches facility has power outage Monday: TCEQ
HOUSTON, August 16, 2016 (PCW) –- Huntsman’s Port Neches facility, which includes a 400 million lbs/yr olefins unit as well as ethylene oxide, ethylene glycol, propylene oxide and MTBE units, went down early Monday morning after a power outage, according to a TCEQ filing.
By midday Monday, the plant was already in restart mode.
“Electrical power was lost at the JCC2 sub-station resulting in a total plant shutdown,” the filing stated. “Initial investigation revealed evidence of a racoon coming in contact with the electrical grid.”
“Units were safely brought down per electrical outage protocol; units are being safely restarted where possible. An internal investigation was initiated,” the filing added.
The ethylene unit represents 0.63% of total US ethylene production capacity.
