ExxonMobil’s Baytown complex has ‘operational issue:’ community hotline
HOUSTON, August 16, 2016 (PCW) -– ExxonMobil on Tuesday reported an ‘operational issue’ at its Baytown chemical complex, according to a community hotline message.
“We’ve had an operational issue at our plant, which is resulting in intermittent safety flaring. There is no cause for community alarm, and we apologize for any inconvenience the safety flaring may cause our neighbors,” the message stated.
The message did not specify which units were affected.
ExxonMobil has two ethylene units at Baytown: the 2.55 billion lbs/yr BOP and the 2.3 billion lbs/yr BOP-X. The plant also produces butyl and propylene.
Currently, Exxon’s Baton Rouge 2.15 billion lbs/yr olefins unit is offline and its 1.8 billion lbs/yr ethylene plant at Beaumont is reportedly running at reduced rates after a compressor trip during the weekend.
