US imports of PET scrap up 13% in H1 2016; up 199% from Honduras
HOUSTON, August 25, 2016 (PCW) -- US imports of PET scrap totaled 57,864 metric tons in the first six months of 2016, up 13% from H1 2015, the latest USA Trade Online data show.
Imports came from 40 countries in H1 2016. In all of 2015 they totaled 101,859 mt valued at $55.5 million, compared to 98,040 mt valued at $63..2 million in 2014.
Imports from Honduras surged in the first half of 2016 to 5,076 mt, up from 1,697 mt or 199% from the year-earlier period.
The largest source of imports in H1 2016 was Mexico at 14,737 mt, or 25% of the total, followed by Canada at 12,341 mt or 21% of the total. Imports from Ecuador in H1 2016 totaled 5,088 mt, down by 6,101 or 120% from H2 2015. Imports from the Cayman Islands totaled 17 mt in H1 2016, up from 3 mt in the year-earlier period. -- Xavier A.
