US plastic scrap exports down in 1H, valued at $353.6-mil
HOUSTON, August 14, 2017 (PCW) -- US exports of plastic scrap totaled 949,289 metric tons in 1H 2017 valued at $353.7 million, down 8,808 mt or 0.9% from 1H 2016, the latest US Commerce Dept. data show.
Broken down by category, PET, PE and PS scrap exports were higher in 1H 2017 while PVC and "other" unsorted plastic scrap exports lower.
PE exports were the highest by volume at 366,479 mt in 1H 2017 valued at $142.8 million, up 20,232 mt or 6% from 1H 2016. PS scrap exports were the lowest by volume at 26,899 mt in 1H 2017, up 9,281 mt or 26%.
PVC scrap exports totaled 96,743 mt in 1H 2017, down 26,053 mt or 21%, while the "other" category registered exports of 318,359 mt, down 46,037 mt or 12.6% from 1H 2016. PET scrap exports were 140,809 mt in 1H 2017, up 33,769 mt or 31.5% from the year-earlier period. -- Xavier A. Cronin
