HARVEY UPDATE: Formosa shutting down Point Comfort units ahead of Harvey
HOUSTON, August 24, 2017 (PCW) -- Formosa will shut down all its Point Comfort, TX operating units in advance of Hurricane Harvey, which is now expected to approach the coast as a major hurricane.
The site is implementing its Tropical Weather Procedure. Non-essential personnel have been dismissed and the site will be staffed with an internal, specially-trained team, the company said in a statement Thursday morning.
In a public advisory issued at 10:00 AM CDT Thursday, the National Hurricane Center said Harvey was quickly strengthening and forecast to be a major hurricane when it approaches the middle Texas coast.
Harvey is expected to produce total rain accumulations of 12 to 20 inches and isolated maximum amounts of 30 inches over the middle and upper Texas coast through next Wednesday, the advisory noted. -- David Barry
The National Hurricane Center will issue updated advisories on Harvey every three hours.
