US PET imports, valued at $695 million in 2015, up 27% in July
HOUSTON, September 2, 2016 (PCW) -- US imports of packaging grade PET totaled 58,124 metric tons in July, up by 12,443 mt or 27% from July 2015, the latest USA Trade Online data show.
For January-July 2016, imports totaled 401,212 mt, up by 39,386 mt or 11% from the same 2015 period.
For all of 2015, PET imports were 593,318 mt valued at $695.5 million.
Brazil has been a major new source of these imports this year. In July imports from Brazil totaled 5,104 mt, up by 3,168 mt or 163% from July 2015. For January-July 2016 imports from Brazil were 46,058 mt, 11.5% of the total and up by 39,857 mt or 643% from the same 2015 period. -- Xavier A. Cronin
