ExxonMobil’s Beaumont cracker has operational upset over weekend

HOUSTON, September 27, 2016 (PCW) – ExxonMobil’s 1.8 billion lbs/yr olefins plant in Beaumont had a “unit malfunction” Sunday, according to a TCEQ filing.

The unit returned to normal operations on Monday, the filing added.

The olefins plant went offline in August after a compressor trip, but has reportedly been running at reduced rates since then.

The unit represents 2.85% of US ethylene capacity and consumes 45,000 b/d of ethane. 5,000 b/d of propane and 10,000 b/d of butane.
