US ethane arrives at Scottish cracker

HOUSTON, September 27, 2016 (PCW) – US ethane has arrived at Ineos’ 760,000 mt/yr (1.7 billion lbs/yr) Grangemouth cracker in Scotland for the first time on Tuesday.

The cargo came aboard the 27,500 cu m JS Ineos Insight, one of the four ‘Dragon’ vessels commissioned by Ineos to ship ethane to its crackers in Europe, from the Marcus Hook terminal in Pennsylvania.

The company has invested some $2 billion to transport US ethane to Europe. Its cracker in Rafnes, Norway, took the first ever US ethane shipment – also from Marcus Hook – earlier this year. Both crackers have been retrofitted to consume lighter feed. -- Samantha Hartke
