US PET scrap imports up 18% through July
HOUSTON, September 6, 2016 (PCW) -- US imports of PET scrap totaled 69,764 metric tons through July, up by 10,886 mt or 18% from January-July 2015, the latest USA Trade Online data show.
Mexico remains the largest source of these imports at 17,803 mt in the first seven months of 2016, down 1% from the year-earlier period. Canada was the second largest source at 14,624 mt, down by 822 mt or 5% from the 2015 period.
PET scrap imports for full-year 2015 totaled 101,859 mt, valued at $55.5 million. US PET scrap exports in 2015 totaled 274,964 mt, valued at $103.1 million.
New sources of PET scrap imports this year include Nigeria (1,537 mt), Taiwan (1,586 mt), and Thailand (1,183 mt). -- Xavier A. Cronin
