US PET scrap exports, worth $87 mil in 2016, surge to Vietnam, India, Malaysia
HOUSTON, September 6, 2017 (PCW)—US exports of PET scrap totaled 155,425 mt valued at $53.8 million in Jan-Jul 2017, up 29,809 mt or 24% from Jan-Jul 2016, the latest US Commerce Department data show.
Exports to Vietnam in the first seven months of 2017 totaled 9,787 mt, up 6,321 mt or 182% from the 2016 period. Exports to India totaled 3,284 mt in Jan-Jul 2017, up 1,572 mt or 92%, and to Malaysia they totaled 8,714 mt, up 3,870 mt or 80% from Jan-Jul 2016.
Exports to China totaled 74,695 mt in Jan-Jul 2017, up 15,662 mt or 27%. Exports to China and Hong Kong combined in the first seven months of 2017 totaled 125,472 mt, 81% of the total.
Small quantities were exported to some countries, like Bermuda, at 175 kg in Jan-Jul 2017, up from none in 2016, and Israel, at 98 mt in the 2017 period, up from 251 kg in Jan-Jul 2016. – Xavier A. Cronin
